Why is it needed

The November exhibition is won in February.

A lighting controller does two things. The first is obvious: give enough light to rooms that get little light. The second is the reason why breeders really buy it: anticipate curves, i.e. moving the subjects' entire biological year forward.

A canary goes to brood when the day reaches thirteen hours of light. In nature it happens around mid-March. Those who wait for March find themselves with newbies finishing the moulting season that has already started, and arrive at the exhibitions with subjects that are not ready.

Those who construct the day artificially mate in mid-February, close the moulting in the summer and in October have finished, feathered, rested subjects in the cage. Furthermore, it is possible to avoid having nestlings in the nest during the hottest weeks of the year.

Anticipating hatching means having the fledglings already in moulting when it is still spring outside.
The backward calendar

How to build an early year

We start from the date of the exhibition and go back. Each step depends on the one before, and they all depend on the hours of daylight.

  1. Early November 9 h

We start again from the minimum

Short day, subject to rest. From here the light starts to grow again, while outside it is still decreasing towards the solstice.

  2. November → February +15–20 min
    per week

    The day gets longer

Small, consistent increments, week after week. It's the step that you can't master by hand: it's three months of continuous adjustments.

  3. Mid February 13 h

    Pairing

Below twelve and a half hours, fertility collapses. At thirteen hours the subjects are in condition, about a month ahead of the natural cycle.

  4. Spring 15–16 h

    Reproduction

The day continues to grow throughout the hatching period, as it would as it approaches the solstice.

  5. 40–50 gdays
    from hatching
    6–8 week.
    of moulting

    The moulting of the newbies

It begins approximately forty days after birth and lasts six to eight weeks. It is the account that decides everything: from here you understand whether the subject will be ready or not.

  6. Summer decreasing

    Shortens to close

Gradually reducing the hours triggers moulting when you need it, not when the weather decides. Then we descend towards rest.

  7. October → December

Group exhibitions, then the Italian Championship

Finished subjects, in full down, rested for weeks. It's the only time the year's work can be seen.

Indicative values taken from the current practice of Italian breeders. Each species and each bird breeding has its own story: our species tables start here and adapt to your environment.

How it works

Three passes, then you forget

  1. STEP 1

    Choose your starting point

Choose one of our ready-made tables by species or set the Personal Program 1 or 2 directly on controller.

  2. STEP 2

    Connect the controller

Neon, incandescent or LED light bars. Dimmable output for Sunrise and sunset, ON/OFF output for the rest. Clear terminals, replaceable fuses, no surprises.

  3. STEP 3

    Let her work

365 days already written. The controller keeps the time, manages the ramps and changes the days by itself. You control the results, not the schedule.
